The Casa de Rui Barbosa Foundation (FCRB) is a federal public institution linked to the Special Secretariat for Culture of the Ministry of Tourism. Created by Law n.4,943, of 1966, its purpose is “the development of culture, research and teaching”, promoting the work and life of Rui Barbosa. In addition, according to Article 4:

“a) promote the systematic publication of Rui Barbosa’s work and its criticism and interpretation, as well as scientific, artistic and literary studies;

b) keep the Rui Barbosa museum and library accessible for public use and consultation;

c) promote studies, conferences, meetings or awards aimed at disseminating culture and research;

d) promote studies and courses on legal, political, philological, or other matters related to the work and life of Rui Barbosa;

e) collaborate with national and foreign institutions, within the scope of its purpose;

f) collaborate, when requested, with the Government of the Union or of the States, being able, by means of an agreement or agreement, to be responsible for the provision of services that are relevant to its activities;

g) properly worship, on November 5th of each year, the “Rui Barbosa Day”.”

The FCRB’s organizational structure encompasses the collegiate body: Advisory Board; assistance bodies to the President: Division of Cultural Diffusion and Division of Planning and Budget; sectional bodies: Federal Attorney, Internal Audit and General Administration Coordination; and singular specific bodies: Research Center; and Center for Memory and Information.

The Advisory Board assists the FCRB President by approving the institution’s guidelines and strategies. The Cultural Diffusion Division works with institutional programs and projects, as well as all cultural and scientific events within the institution. The Planning and Budget Division, on the other hand, encompasses budget activities and resources, the Pluriannual Plan and the Annual Budget Law.

The Federal Attorney’s Office represents and guides the Foundation in the legal area. Internal Audit verifies and monitors the legal norms that involve the financial, administrative and operational management of the institution.

The General Coordination of Administration works with the guidelines and administrative norms, managing the institution’s programs and projects that involve everything from the financial area to the development of people.

The Research Center develops scientific investigations in the areas of Law, Philology, History, Cultural Policies and Ruiano. It publishes books, mainly the Complete Works of Rui Barbosa, in its Publishing nucleus and promotes courses and events through its Instituto Rui Barbosa de Altos Estudos em Cultura (IRBæc).

The Memory and Information Center works with the management of cultural assets and heritage collections of the FCRB through its specialized sectors: Museum, Archives, Libraries and Archive-Museum of Brazilian Literature, Preservation and Architecture. It also develops research and promotes scientific and cultural events.

FCRB, as a research and culture institution, also offers society the Professional Master’s in Memory and Collections, through its Postgraduate Program in Memory and Collections.
